My Freshman Year
I find this reading really enjoyable. The concept of Rebekah Nathan going to a college setting is extremely relatable since we ourselves are college students. Reading this brought back memories of when I first arrived at Bloomsburg last fall and it was easy to compare and contrast Nathan's experience with my own. One thing that I thought was strange was when Nathan openly drank beer in her dormitory lounge. Since she lived in a Freshman dorm, I don't understand why she would ever think that was okay to do. She said herself that most of the people she lived with were either 19 or 20 years old. It seemed to me like she didn't even think before she acted in that particular case. Another thing that I found interesting was how she related the college experience to her studies on different cultures in different parts of the world. I was shocked that she related completely different cultures with a college student like myself. Moreover, I really enjoy this reading and I'm glad to be given an assignment that I can relate to and find interesting.

Enthnography
My first thought about this book was that it was going to be dreadful and boring to read. But to my surprise, it started out with a nice attention getter that allowed me to easily get into it. What I found interesting was how the author explained that the word 'culture' should be looked at as a verb and not a noun. When I first read this, I paused and thought about what I would have considered the word if I was asked without knowing this reading. What I came to find is that I definitely would have considered it a noun and not have even given it a second thought. So the idea that culture is an on going thing and should be looked at more broadly definitely caught my attention. Along with the idea of culture, I liked how the author talked about how culture is more than just belonging to one particular group. This reading made me realize how one small word like 'culture' can create and provoke endless amounts of ideas and discussion.
